The Nehiyaw Pimatisiwin Cree Language and Culture program at Ben Calf Robe Elementary Junior High School delivers culturally permeated curriculum in all content areas to FNMI students in our district. Ben Calf Robe’s mission is: To provide a holistic, culturally relevant Catholic education that builds on the strengths and values of Indigenous families, which will inspire our students to learn, work, to live fully and to serve God in one another.
Nehiyaw Pimatisiwin Cree Language and Culture programming at Ben Calf Robe School
provides Cree Language instruction from K-9, regular Elder teachings, daily smudging, Sacred Pipe ceremonies, Pow Wow drumming, dancing and singing. Students also learn stew and bannock making in their Food Studies course, build medicine boxes in the woodworking shop, learn traditional indigenous games in Phys Ed and much more. All Grade 9 students participate in a Rites of Passage camp as they transition to high school.
