Edmonton Bike Route Information

The City of Edmonton will be installing bike lanes either in front of or near a handful of ECSD schools this summer (July/August 2013). Below is some important information on where Bike Routes will be built and how to navigate them as a motorist or a cyclist. The City plans to install close to 500 km of on-street cycling facilities within the next 10 to 20 years. These new on street bike routes help people choose cycling as a safe, healthy and efficient way to get around the city. Bike infrastructure increases comfort for both motorists and cyclists, but the rules of the road still need to be followed. A child’s bicycle with a wheel diameter of 50 cm or less can be ridden on a sidewalk. For adults, cycling on sidewalks is not recommended. Knowing bike route signage helps everyone get along.
