Through his evangelical mission, Father Mike Mireau showed us the tremendous value of having clergy play a significant role in the lives of our students and staff as part of everyday school life.  In honour of the great foundation that he has laid for us in this area, we will continue with this great work.

Having consulted with and received the agreement of Archbishop Smith and Bishop Motiuk, I am so very pleased to announce that Father Dean Dowle from the Archdiocese of Edmonton and Father Julian Bilyj from the Ukrainian Eparchy will be joining together to serve as our District Chaplains commencing October 27, 2014.  Edmonton Catholic Schools is, indeed, blessed to have these two priests uniting in Christ to help us further our mission to provide a Catholic education that inspires students to learn and that prepares them to live fully and to serve God in one another.

Father Dean will join our District half time.  He will serve the District as a whole and be centred out of St. Francis Xavier High School, where he will spend 0.3 of his time as school chaplain.  He will continue his work as the Adjunct Judicial Vicar of the Alberta InterDiocesan Marriage Tribunal half time, as well. Fr. Dean considers it “a privilege, a humble honor, and most of all, a sincere joy to be able to serve the students, staff, and members of ECSD.”

Father Julian, who has been a teacher in our District for the past year, will be centred out of the school that he has been serving, St. Lucy.  He will also serve the entire District half time in addition to his 0.15 at St. Lucy.  Father Julian will continue to serve the Eparchy in his role as pastor of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church. Father Julian and his wife delight in spending time as a family with the two children God has blessed them with.  He is inspired by the words of St. Isaac the Syrian, "Thirst after Jesus, and He will satisfy you with His love."

Please join me in welcoming Father Dean and Father Julian to their new roles of spiritual leadership with our District!
