New Chair and Vice Chair Elected

The Board of Trustees voted for Chair and Vice Chair for the 2020/21 school year at today’s public Board meeting. The new Board Chair is Sandra Palazzo, Trustee for Ward 72 and Vice Chair is Lisa Turchansky, Ward 76.

Sandra Palazzo was Vice Chair for the past three years and this will be her first year as Board Chair. Palazzo has over 30 years of experience as an educator and administrator with Edmonton Catholic Schools and worked as a Senior Manager for Alberta Education for three years before being elected in October 2017.

“I am humbled to be elected Chair, honoured to work with our dedicated Board, and proud to represent the Board in this capacity,” said Sandra Palazzo, Chair, Edmonton Catholic Schools. “I will continue our mission of ensuring Edmonton Catholic Schools is a Division where student success is at the forefront of our decision making,” Palazzo went on to say.

Lisa Turchansky was elected as Trustee in 2017 and this is her first time as Vice Chair.  Lisa is a parent of two children in the Division, and a graduate of Edmonton Catholic Schools. Lisa has served on the Board’s Community Engagement Committee and believes strongly in the power of advocacy on behalf of Catholic Education.

“We have an extraordinary Board and I am honoured to serve in this role,” said Lisa Turchansky, Vice Chair, Edmonton Catholic Schools. “I am a strong believer in the gift of Catholic education and the advantage of a faith-filled learning environment,” stated Turchansky.

“On behalf of the Board, I would also like to thank Trustee Laura Thibert for her leadership as Chair for the past two years,” Palazzo added. “Thibert fulfilled her role with deliberation and our Board was fortunate to have her guidance,” Palazzo emphasized.

Both Trustee Palazzo and Trustee Turchansky will assume their roles as Chair and Vice Chair for 2020/21 following the June 23rd, 2020 meeting.
