Superintendent's Message - Remembrance Day
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God” (Matthew 5:9)
We are truly blessed as Canadians to live in a country that is at peace. Because of this blessing, it is very easy to lose sight of the fact that over 2.3 million Canadians have served in uniform since Confederation, and over 118,000 of them have made the ultimate sacrifice so that we can live in peace. It is so essential that we ensure that these sacrifices are always remembered and honored. We, along with our children and youth, must recognize that peace comes only through action and sacrifice; it is the key to a peace-filled future. This is at the heart of our faith as Jesus teaches us in the Beatitudes.
Veterans’ Affairs Canada has an excellent website that is dedicated to Remembrance, https://www.veterans.gc.ca/eng/remembrance . It is a valuable resource to us all, not only as educators, but also as Canadians who are blessed with freedom and peace!
