Welcome Back to Staff

Bishop David Motiuk - ECSD Parent Newsletter - What I Learned Over the Summer

Welcome to our 130th year of Catholic education in Edmonton Catholic Schools!  Our theme for this year, Walking Together in God’s Love, provides us with a beautiful image of the journey that you undertake daily as you collaborate with your colleagues to help our students, their families, and each other grow together in Christ.  Our scripture passage from Micah tells us what God asks of us: to act justly, to love tenderly, and to walk humbly with Him.  In return, we receive the comfort and joy that comes from knowing that He is with us always!

As we journey together on our mission to provide a Catholic education that inspires students to learn and that prepares them to live fully and to serve God in one another, we have established our District Plan for Continuous Growth to guide our work. You will each receive a copy of this important document so that you can discern the role that you play in bringing these goals to life in your particular role of service to our students and families.  We have also included the measures and targets that we will use to assess our work to add clarity and focus.

Edmonton Catholic School District Goal:  Live and enhance the distinctiveness of Catholic education

Goal One:  ECSD students are successful.
Goal Two:  ECSD supports First Nations, Métis, and Inuit students’ success.
Goal Three:  ECSD respects diversity and supports inclusion.
Goal Four:  ECSD has excellent teachers, and school and school authority leaders.
Goal Five:  ECSD is well governed and managed.

In his apostolic exhortation Gaudete et Exsultate, Rejoice and Be Glad, Pope Francis shares signs of holiness in the world today.  In his writings we can see the holiness that you bring to our schools and sites: “A community that cherishes the little details of love, whose members care for one another and create an open and evangelizing environment, is a place where the risen Lord is present, sanctifying it in accordance with the Father’s plan” (145).

I wish each one of you an exciting and rewarding year where you are surrounded by the holiness that comes from walking together in God’s love with your colleagues, students, and their families!

Sincerely,
Joan Carr
Superintendent
