Superintendent's Message - Ukrainian Canadian Heritage Day
The Ukrainian-Canadian Heritage Day Act, which names September 7 of each year as a day to celebrate Alberta’s rich Ukrainian heritage, received unanimous consent in the Alberta legislature. This is remarkable in that unanimous consent has only happened five times in Alberta’s history. September 7 was chosen to honor the first officially recorded Ukrainian immigrants to Canada, Ivan Pylypiw and Vasyl Eleniak, who arrived on that day in 1891.
Our District is proud to have provided Ukrainian bilingual programming for over 40 years to the children and youth of the City of Edmonton, and to have a rich relationship with the Edmonton Eparchy!
