Superintendent's Message - June 2019

Archbishop Smith June 2019.pdf

Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of services, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who activates all of them in everyone.

1 Corinthians 12: 4-6

The culminating act of our students’ time with us is their graduation, and like any family, we are extremely proud of all our students for their success.  As this scripture passage shares, we celebrate that each of our students has received a variety of gifts through the Spirit. We are honored that, through their journey of Catholic education with us, we have been able to provide a Christ-centred environment for their learning and growth; a place where God has activated those gifts as part of a beautiful community.

Student success is at the heart of all that we do.  In an effort to add an extra layer of support to our high school students who are writing diploma exams, we are offering Diploma Exam Prep courses once again this year.  Visit our School of Alternative Education website, www.sae.ecsd.net, to view the complete schedule of prep sessions and to find registration information.  You will also find our summer school offerings there.

Pentecost Sunday falls on June 9 this year, and it provides a wonderful opportunity for us to reflect on the role of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Pope Francis shares, “It is the Spirit who is the protagonist of Christian life, the Holy Spirit, who is with us, accompanies us, transforms us, is victorious with us” (May 18, 2019).

June offers us the occasion to celebrate all those who fill the role of father in our lives by offering our thanks for their love, wisdom, and support.

Strength of a Mountain

God took the strength of a mountain, The majesty of a tree, The warmth of a summer sun, The calm of a quiet sea, The generous soul of nature, The comforting arm of night, The wisdom of the ages, The power of the eagle's flight, The joy of a morning in spring, The faith of a mustard seed, The patience of eternity, The depth of a family need, Then God combined these qualities, When there was nothing more to add, He knew His masterpiece was complete, And so, He called it ...
