Let us nurture the seeds of peace as they grow and let us transform our cities into workshops of peace.
(Pope Francis, 01/01/18)
November 11, 2018 marks the 100th anniversary of the Armistice – the end of the First World War. Remembrance Day is a time for us all to pause and gratefully reflect on the great sacrifices of our military across the years so that Canadians and others around the world have the gift of living in peace and freedom. It is also a time for us to reflect on the responsibility that we each have to nurture the seeds of peace in our homes and our communities. There are many ceremonies and events that are taking place in Edmonton this Sunday to honor our soldiers. Visit http://www.veterans.gc.ca/eng/events and type Edmonton into the filter items field to find a ceremony to attend.
At 11 am on this solemn day, people around the world will pause and observe a minute of silence. I invite you to join me in offering this prayer:
have mercy on your people,
and open our hearts to peace and love.
Reward all who have died for our country,
and grant that Canada and all nations
may continue to work for justice and peace.
Bless us in our service,
and help us to follow your Son, Jesus Christ,
who is our Saviour and our Lord
for ever and ever.
