A Prayer to Remember the Victims of the Ethiopian Airlines Crash

As more information has become available, we now know that 2 of the victims of this tragedy were from Edmonton - a mother, Amina Odowaa, and her five-year-old daughter, Sofia Abdulkadir. The family leaves behind 2 other children to mourn their loss. Please keep this family and our colleagues from Edmonton Public Schools, who grieve the loss of a young member of their community, in your prayers.

In times such as this, we know that "neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Romans 8: 38-39).

On Sunday morning an Ethiopian Airlines flight departing from Addis Ababa en route to Nairobi Kenya crashed killing all 157 people on board. An airline spokesman said the victims were of 35 different nationalities, including 18 Canadians.

We hold in our hearts and lift up in prayer all of those who have been impacted by the airline disaster.

Let us pray: Almighty God, give the lives of the people affected by this tragedy the courage they need during this time of great suffering. Bless the work of first responders and grant strength to the men, women and children who mourn and grieve the loss of their loved ones. Bring peace to the victim's families and friends and surround them with your consolation and comfort. Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth. Help us keep our hearts focused on the needs of those affected as we pray for the intercession of Mary:

Hail Mary full of Grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus. Holy Mary Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our deathAMEN.
