Edmonton Catholic School District has established a large number of collaborative partnerships with a diverse and broad group of community organizations. Our central partners are the Archdiocese of Edmonton, the Ukrainian Eparchy of Edmonton, and Alberta Education. Without any one of these three Edmonton Catholic Schools could not provide the excellent education and vast array of educational experiences and opportunities that we are privileged to offer our students.
Within all of our District departments and in each of our schools, administrators, teachers, staff and parents work hard to find, create and nourish relationships within their local community. Just as the District works with the central and large-scale affiliations that support the work we do, it is the creativity, energy and unflagging determination to provide the best possible environment, supports and activities for our students that motivates us to collaborate with our community partners. In appreciation of all our partnerships, those that support the entire District and those that support individual schools, Edmonton Catholic Schools has a Partnership Appreciation Week in November.
Included in the attached report are lists of partnerships that range in type from formal Memoranda of Understanding, to shared facility agreements, service agreements with smaller school boards for cost savings in purchasing power and strategies that improve the efficiency of student transportation services, to educational support partnerships with post-secondary and government organizations and non-profit organizations and finally, but not least, parishes, local community, and social justice groups. Like any growing and improving organization, our list of partners evolves constantly year to year as well as throughout each school year so no list or spreadsheet can capture all the collaborative practices that are happening at any one school or for our entire District. What is certain is that, as our student population grows and our number of schools increases, so do our efforts in working with new and existing community groups that support our work with children.
Most partnerships are difficult to define and categorize into only one area because, as our children’s needs and interests are multi-layered, so are the benefits of all our collaborations. For example, E4C provides funding for nutrition programs so they would be listed under Nutrition, but a healthy diet supports Recreation, Health and Wellness, which in turn supports success in academics. The following lists, therefore, offer a limited glimpse of the limitless benefits of our collaboration.
We express gratitude to the multitude of partnerships, collaborations, opportunities for research and the many strategies that enhance the learning opportunities for our students.
