Self-Paced Learning

Self-Paced summer school offers instruction for self-motivated students within a module-based learning environment. Students can access one-on-one support and small group instruction. All assessments will be done in-person. Teacher support will not be available until July 5th. View the calendar for more information.

In light of the recent announcement from the Alberta Government, we are pleased to announce that we will pivot our Summer School programming back to in-person instruction. Therefore, students enroled in classroom-based and self-paced courses will attend in-person at their registered school or site.

*Students can only register for one self-paced course. After the first course is complete, and if time permits, students may register for a second course.

No registrations will be accepted after 12pm on June 25.png


*SELF-PACED Summer School MATERIAL PICK-UP*
If you have not picked up your Summer School course material, you will receive it on the first day of Summer School (July 5) at the Self-Paced location you are registered at.


Note: Students must complete and submit all work and all exams no later than Monday, July 26 at 12:00 pm.  
All other work that is submitted after this date will not be accepted.

* Self-Paced students can pick up their course material beginning May 3rd via appointment only.

*Teacher curriculum support will not be available to Summer School students until July 5th to July 27th.

Student (Under 20 years of age as of September 1, 2020)

3 CREDIT COURSE or 5 CREDIT COURSE

  • $63.00 Technology User Fee (Non-Refundable)
  • $90.00 Caution Fee (Refunded upon the return of textbooks/materials in good condition)

International Student (Under 20 years of age as of September 1, 2020)

*** Must present valid Study Permit, Passport and report card required ***

5 CREDIT COURSE

  • $910.00 Technology User Fee (Non-Refundable)
  • $90.00 Caution Fee (Refunded upon the return of textbooks/materials in good condition)
  • $50.00 Diploma Exam Sitting Fee (For all 30 Level Courses only. This sitting fee is Non-Refundable)

3 CREDIT COURSE

  • $510.00 Technology User Fee (Non-Refundable)
  • $90.00 Caution Fee (Refunded upon the return of textbooks/materials in good condition)

Please contact International Services at One World...One Centre at 780 944-2001 prior to registering for any Summer School program. International Students must provide their current Study Permit, Passport & current school records for review to determine eligibility for admission.

COURSES & PREREQUISITES


Alberta Education regulations regarding prerequisite courses apply to summer school. These regulations specify that a student must have a pass standing (ie. 50% or higher) in the prerequisite course in order to continue with the series. If you register for a course without prerequisite standing, you will be withdrawn from the course without a refund of the Technology User Fee or Program Fee. 

*Religious Education 15 students require the permission of their resident ECSD High School in order to register for the course. 
Approvals are required and must be received before registration can be processed. School approvals must be emailed to: alternativeeducationprograms@ecsd.net
You will be contacted by Alternative Education to register once the approval has been received.

WITHDRAWALS, TRANSFERS & CANCELLATIONS


Withdrawals

  • Summer School withdrawals prior to 12:00 pm on June 25 must be made by phone at 780 944-2000.
  • All Technology User Fees are Non-Refundable after registration.
  • Only the $90.00 Caution Fee, if applicable, will be refunded upon the return of textbooks/materials in good condition. 

Course Cancellations & Refunds

All Self-Paced summer school courses are based on enrolment. Classes that do not meet the minimum enrolment, will be cancelled. Should a class be cancelled, we will contact you and go through alternate options that are available.

  • Alternative Education reserves the right to cancel any class where the minimum enrollment is not met. A full refund will be issued for any course cancelled by Alternative Education.
  • All Technology User Fees/Program Fees are Non-Refundable after registration or upon withdrawal.  
    • Only the $90 Caution Fee will be refunded upon the return of textbooks/materials in good condition within one year after the completion of the course. 
    • Students must complete a caution refund form at the site upon the return of textbooks/materials to initiate their refund.

All Technology User Fees are Non-Refundable

Only the Caution Fee of $90.00, if applicable, will be refunded upon the return of textbooks/materials in good condition.
