MORNING DAILY ANNOUNCEMENTS 2022/2023

FRIDAY, Sept 23

Today is the last day for high school students to hand in SU nomination forms to Mr. Vanderhelm. Then be sure to check your school email for setting up an interview.   


All Jr high Students interested in being on the Jr High Curling Team there will be a meeting Wednesday, Sept 28 in room 207 at lunch.  

 

There will be a meeting today at 11:47 (first half of lunch) in room 207 (Mrs. Johnston) for all cross-country students in grades 7-9 regarding upcoming races . Bring your lunch and come find out the details!  


Thursday, Sept 22


High School Student Union nomination forms are available outside of Mr. Vanderhelm's room – 246. Please note that the nomination forms are to be handed back to Mr. Vanderhelm by THIS FRIDAY, Sept 23. 

 

The Louis Singing Group will have its first meeting today in the Ancillary Room.  The Senior High Group will be from 12:15 – 1:35 PM and the Junior High Group will be from 1:40 – 3:00 PM.  Show-up if you're interested in being part of great singing group at LSL!  

 

Braided Journey's News: Students who will be going to the Orange Shirt Symposium today please meet in the Braided Journey's room at 8:45am. Bus will be leaving at 9am and no later.  

 


WEDNESDAY, Sept 21

Thanks to everyone who came to the Student Union info meeting yesterday. The nomination forms are available outside of Mr. Vanderhelm's room – 246. If you missed the meeting yesterday, but are interested in being a part of the SU, please speak with Mr. Vanderhelm. Please note that the nomination forms are to be handed back to Mr. Vanderhelm by THIS FRIDAY, Sept 23. 

 

You have one more day to bring in your Terry Fox donations! Put it in your phone, write it on your hand, help us reach our goal and support cancer research. Also please be sure to dress for the weather tomorrow so that you are comfortable on the run. 

 

There is a student Yearbook meeting today after school in room 225 on the Junior High side.  

 

This is a reminder that tomorrow Thursday Sept 22 will be a 2/4 - Day 2 schedule 

 

Braided Journey's News: Today at lunch we will learn about mindfulness and participate in some fun and relaxing techniques. Also, for those students who will be going on the field trip tomorrow to St. Joes don't forget to wear something orange! 😊  

TUESDAY, Sept 20

Any students interesting in designing the program cover for this year's SMASH Volleyball Tournament, please come to a meeting today in room 249 at lunch. This is open to all SH and JH students who are interested in art and graphic design. For any questions, please talk to Ms. Zapisocky or Mr. Klopoushak. 

 

There will be meeting for high school students who are interested in being involved with your STUDENT UNION today at lunch in Mr. Vanderhelm's room, that's room 246. 

 

As of yesterday, we were around the $5000 mark for fundraising! Keep bringing in those donations everyone! 

 

Reminder to our student Yearbook team that there will be a meeting tomorrow after school in 225 on the Junior High side. If you are still wanting to join, please sign up on the Google Classroom. Codes can be found on posters throughout the school.  

 

Braided Journeys News: Today during lunch we will be having a virtual NAIT information session. If you are interested in the trades, computers, business, or any other hands-on careers you don't want to miss this session. This is open to any student in grades 10-12. There will be some information for Indigenous students as well!  

 

Junior high, senior girls' soccer team will have an AWAY game today against St. Edmund's. Girls, please meet in the CM gym for 2:55PM, changed and ready to go. Go Barons Go!

Braided Journeys News: Today is smudge and snacks with Gary. Tomorrow we have a NAIT information session in the Braided Journeys room during lunch. This is open to students in grades 9-12. Also, don't forget to hand in your consent forms for the Orange Shirt Day Symposium. This fieldtrip is this Thursday at St. Joes. We still have a couple of spots available! Pick up consent form from Teri.  

 

The Annual Terry Fox Run was held this past weekend and in Edmonton alone over 2200 people took part. Let's add to this amazing legacy. Bring in your donations to your JH HR and SH Block 1 classes. 

 

Reminder that there is chess club at the start of high school lunch. Everyone is welcome! In room 264 Ms. Pilipchuk's classroom.

Did you know that Terry Fox ran a marathon every day of his run for cancer research? That is 42kms every day! Let's think big Louis and bring in our donations for cancer research.

 We have a new and exciting opportunity for students to joining a performing voice team for voice training and learning popular songs with a junior high and another team for high school.  Running this team is the talented and accomplished Simon Abbott. If you are curious or interested, there will be a junior high meeting today,  in room 159 at 11:45 and another meeting today for high school students at 12:15 PM in room 159. 


Braided Journeys News: There is a Braided Journeys Student Leadership meeting afterschool today from 12:10pm to 2:30pm. Also, if you are an Indigenous student in grades 9 to 12 and would like to attend next Thursdays Orange Shirt Day Symposium at St. Joe's please pick up a consent form from Teri.

We have a new opportunity for students in joining a performing voice team for voice training and learning popular songs with a junior high and another team for high school.  Running this team is the talented and accomplished Simon Abbott. If you are curious or interested, there will be a junior high meeting on Thursday, September 15th in room 159 at 11:45 and another meeting on Thursday, September 15th at 12:15 PM in room 159 for high school.   

 

A reminder to all JH Cross country runners that our first race is tomorrow. If you have not picked up an information sheet from Mrs. Fenrich in room 221 please do so. 

 

Braided Journey's News: Today at lunch we will have Indigenous Student Success Information Session. Anyone interested in learning good tips on how to be more successful in school and in their career please come to this session!  

 

The Terry Fox Run is next week! Let's make a difference Louis. Bring in your donations to your JH homeroom teacher or HS Block 1 teacher. If we raise enough money you will see some bald teachers in the hallways! 

 

Congratulations goes out to our junior high Senior Girls soccer team as they won last night against STM, 3-1. Well done ladies! The team will have a practice today after school from 3-4:15pm. Please meet in the CM gym.  

Tuesday, Sept 13


Fashion Club starts today after school. We will meet every Tuesday from 3-4:30 upstairs in the Fashion Lab, room 231. Open to both junior and senior high students and all levels of experience. Everyone is welcome.

Yearbook team meeting today after school in room 225 upstairs on the Junior High side. The team is for Junior and Senior High students! Find our posters around the school to sign up on the Google Classroom if you have not done so already.  

 

Very Important JH Cross Country Meeting at the beginning of lunch today in room 221. It is regarding information for our race on Thursday, so you need to be there! 

 

Junior Jazz Band – don't forget our first rehearsal of the year at 7:15 tomorrow morning! See you there! 

 

Congratulations to the Women Varsity Volleyball Team on an outstanding tournament this past weekend.  The girls competed hard and showed Barons PRIDE!!!  Good luck in the start of the league season this week.  Come out and cheer on your BARONS!! 

 

Junior High Volleyball Camp.... all Junior High students are encourage to sign up for our 13th annual JUNIOR HIGH VOLLEYBALL CAMP this weekend Saturday September 17th 12-4:30pm and Sunday September 18th 9-2pm.  NO SKILL LEVEL REQUIRED... ALL STUDENTS WELCOME!! 

 

There will be a FINAL junior high senior girls soccer try out today from 3-430PM. Please meet in the CM gym for 3pm, ready to go with all your gear! 

 

All senior high cross country runners are to see Mr. McCarville today at lunch in room 230 (which is the grad coach office) for important information on Wednesday's race. If you were unable to get a field trip form last week but would still like to participate in the cross country season please speak to Mr. McCarville! 

 

Chess club is starting today in Ms. Pilipchuk's room (264) at the start of high school lunch. Chess will be every Monday. All levels are welcome!

VARSITY GOLF: Interested individuals must pick up their permission forms from Mr. Petryk in room 2332 today and submit completed forms to Mr. Petryk by lunch on Friday.

Wednesday, Sept 7, 2022

Students interested in joining the LSL Swim Team are asked to come to a meeting today in room 234 at lunch.  This is open to Sr. High and Jr. High students.  Practices start Monday, Sept. 12 at Confed. Pool. 

 

The Senior High Jazz Band will be having its first meeting in Room 159 today from 3:05 PM – 3:20 PM.  This meeting is an informative meeting for anyone who is interested in enrolling in Instrumental Jazz 15, 25, or 35.  If you play piano, drums, guitar, bass, trombone, trumpet, or saxophone and you love jazz, swing, latin jazz, funk, soul, or blues, this is a great opportunity for you! 

 

JH Cross Country – If you are interested in running Cross Country but did not have a chance to attend the meeting please talk to Mrs. Fenrich in room 221 to get a permission form. Our next practice will be on Thursday. Meet in the changeroom hallway ready to run right after school. All are welcome, but only those who have their permission forms signed can join practice.

Friday Sept 2, 2022

JH Cross Country Running Team– This is a great way to get involved, enjoy the great outdoors and start conditioning for other sports. Information meeting Friday at the beginning of lunch in room 221. All are welcome. 

 

Did you just listen to the announcement about JH cross country running and think to yourself "I'd love to get out and run in the sun with other like-minded individuals who share a passion for elevated heart rates and the thrill of competing against yourself?" If so, meet Mr. McCarville in the LSL gym today at lunch to sign up for the SH cross country team. All are welcome. Our first group run will be Tuesday after school!
