Congratulations to all of the LSL students who were livestreamed in ECSD’s Celebration of the Fine Arts last night!  Our Louis students showcased their talents in LSL Dance, Jazz Band, Art, Junior All City Band, All City Choir, and Senior All City Jazz Band!  Bravo! 




Braided Journey’s News: Today after school there is in-person tutoring for any Braided Journey student who needs support with their courses. Snacks will be provided.  


 

Wednesday, May 18th 


Macbeth: Full cast rehearsal today, 3:15 – 6:00 in the theatre. All cast please be there! 

 

ECSD’s Celebration of the Fine Arts will be livestreamed tonight at 6:30 PM.  Links to the one-time livestream have been sent to all parent emails.  LSL has a big role in this year’s event, with LSL Dance, LSL Jazz Band, and LSL Artwork being showcased!  Be sure to tune in tonight! 


  

Braided Journey’s News: Braided Journey’s room is open to junior high students to attend. Also, there will be in-person tutoring for Braided Journey students in the room tomorrow afterschool. If you are not passing your courses you should try to attend. See you soon!

Macbeth Cast: Please make sure that you are checking Google Classroom regularly for rehearsal calls. We are starting to run the show this week and will need all cast members to be at rehearsal when called.  


Have you volunteered to help around the school? Have you given of your time and talents to better the Louis community? ANY grade 10, 11, or 12 student who would like to be recognized for the service and voluntary work they have completed for the school needs to go to the school’s website to find the application packages. The packages can be found under the heading, “Parent / Student info” in, “Awards / Scholarships”. 


 Students looking to receive a grade level service award at our annual Academic Awards Night need to fill out the package and have two teachers sign the application.  

Any grade 12 student looking to be nominated for the Major Service Award needs to fill out the appropriate package for the 3-year service award.  


As many of you know, the cost of post-secondary education is on the rise; most scholarships require some form of voluntary contribution – what better way to show your worth than with an award that commends the ways in which you have given back to your school and community. Don’t miss out on this great opportunity!! 


Also available to any grade 12 student are applications for the Lion’s Legacy Scholarship (2 scholarships awarded to LSL grads) or the Alberta Citizenship award (awarded to one LSL grad).

 

ALL APPLICATIONS NEED TO BE COMPLETED AND SUBMITTED TO THE OFFICE BY FRIDAY MAY 27th BEFORE 3:15. 


A HUGE THANK YOU to all students and staff that worked on our compost sale, especially our Saturday volunteers. Each bag that was loaded into a vehicle weighed about 40 pounds and we have sold 470 bags. Way to go Louis! There are still some bags for sale. If you are interested in purchasing, please reach out to Mrs. Johnson. 

All LSL junior high students will be competing in their Track and Field day, tomorrow: May 17th!  Busses will be boarding from the school at 8:45AM. Please dress for the weather and bring a bagged lunch or money for the food truck. Bring plenty of water, inhalers or epipens, athletic gear and runners. We are at Rollie Miles until 2:30PM and then will head back to the school on the bus.

Attention all High School Track & Field athletes: THERE IS AN IMPORTANT MEETING TODAY AT 12:15PM IN THE LSL GYM – PLEASE BRING YOUR PERMISSION FORMS. We need to review everyone’s events for the Divisonal Finals on May 16!

We were very proud and honoured to recognize the exceptional accomplishments of three students from Louis St. Laurent during the Superintendent’s Awards of Excellence ceremony this week.   This is a prestigious award for students in our Edmonton Catholic School Division and we congratulate Neela P, Brownson N, and Emelyne N!  

The winners of the Moose Hide draw is Brady Sirios in 8D and Lwinter Rillo in 8E. Please see Mrs. Johnston in room 207 to claim your gift card prize! 

Mrs. Johnston has a variety of photos that printed later, after yesterday’s JH dance. You can come to room 207 at lunch time to pick yours up.

There is no Flag Football practice today. Practice on Monday.

Braided Journey’s News: Today is Moose Hide Campaign at LSL. Teachers don’t forget to pick up your pins in your mailbox for you and the students. Moose Hide Campaign is to take a stand to end violence towards women and children. To support wear your pin today and tomorrow! A presentation about this will take place during your block 3 classes today. 😊 Also, today during lunch the Braided Journey’s is open to junior and senior high school students. Tomorrow afterschool there is in-person tutoring.

Any grade 10 and 11 women who are interested in STEM programs at the U of A after graduation can attend an information presentation during TA this week in Mr. Vanderhelms room.

Braided Journey’s News: Today is smudge Monday with Gary. Also, our student nikaniwin leadership group will be creating awareness of the Moose Hide Campaign (violence against women and children) this week. Stay tuned for events taking place in your classrooms. If any junior high students would like to participate in an online session on Thursday about Indigenous teachings and the Moose Hide Campaign, please see Teri.

LSL last day to busy your ticket for 1 of 6 chances to win a $25.00 gift certificate to a local restaurant.  

Tomorrow morning, the Senior High Band will be hosting a Multicultural Music Morning in the cafeteria from 8:00 – 8:24 AM.  Come to the cafeteria to enjoy live music inspired by Brazil, Korea, Eastern Europe, Africa, and Alberta’s First Nations.  We will also be selling hot chocolate and Remedy Chai Lattes for $1.  It’s a great way to start the day!

Wednesday, May 4th 


Attention all High School Track & Field athletes:  All Jr Girls Athletes competing in 100m and 200m – there will be a runoff qualifying races on today @ 3:15 at the Oval track.  

All 100m and 200 m runner who wish to complete at the Metro Meets need to attend.

   

On Friday, there will be a Jump off for High Jumpers. All Jr Girls wishing to represent LSL need to      attend the jump off! 

 

LSL please don’t forget to buy your ticket for a 1 of 6 chances to win a $25.00 dollar gift certificate to a local restaurant.  Ticket table is in front of office. Tickets are 1.00 each.

To all cast of Macbeth: there is a Shakespearean text workshop today from 3:15 – 4:30 with Doug Mertz from MacEwan University. All cast are welcome to attend!  


Don’t forget to bring in some bottles for the Bottle Drive for the Ukraine. The CSI Club is hoping to raise $1000 to donate. Last week was a great start with us making about $250 in donations take a look at home if you have any bottles, cans, milk jugs, or juice box containers you can bring in.

Tip #3Turn off and unplug electronic devices when not in use.  This saves energy and reduces emissions.

May bus passes are available for purchase until Tuesday, May 10th.  All purchases must be made through Parent PowerSchool account.  ID MUST be presented when picking up bus pass at the business office.

This Friday is Earth Day and the Green Team has some tips for you to reduce your greenhouse gas emissions. 


Tip #2: Plant a tree!  Trees give off oxygen and absorb carbon dioxide. Just one tree can absorb around a ton of carbon dioxide in its lifetime. 


Any grade 11s interested in forming the Committee for Grad 2023 please come to a meeting at lunch on Friday in room 253 


Any Spanish Bilingual students in grades 9, 10 or 11 interested in being a Spanish exchange student, please meet at lunch today in room 137. 


Performers and Volunteers for Multicultural Week, there is a meeting TODAY at lunch in room 259. All performers (each person in your group must attend)!  


Reminder there will be NO Fashion club today, but next week Mrs. Johnson will offer it both Tuesday and Wednesday.

Tuesday April 19th 


This Friday is Earth Day and the Green Team has some tips for you to reduce your greenhouse gas emissions.

  

Tip #1: Eat less red meat.  Energy is used for raising the animals, processing the meat and, most of all, keeping it from spoiling.  Deforestation occurs to clear land for farm animals.  Every day that you forgo meat and dairy can reduce your carbon footprint by 8 pounds, totaling 2,920 pounds a year. 


The Grad Committee are looking for grade 11 volunteers to help with Grad Commencement on the evening of June 28. If you are interested, please come see Ms. Sadler or Ms. Fierheller ASAP. Also, any grade 11s interested in forming the Committee for Grade 2023 please come to a meeting at lunch on Friday in room 253

Great work on the Great Cereal Challege! In total we have collected 205 boxes of cereal to be donated! Homeroom 8D brought in the greatest number and proved that they love a good Costco deal! Keep your eyes peeled for posters telling you about our Bottle Drive for Ukraine – we're starting to accept donations today!  

 

Attention: Multicultural day performers and volunteers!  This Wednesday meeting in 259 at lunch!  all students welcome!  If you signed up in the Google Classroom, you must show up to the meeting!

Thursday April 14th  

 

Attention all Junior School students. Today there will an Easter Egg Hunt in the morning on the CM side. If you are lucky enough to find an egg, you will bring your egg to Mrs. Johnston’s room at 11:15 for a treat and a chance to win an Easter basket! The draw will take place at the end of the day. 

 

Today is the last day of the Great Cereal Challenge LSL, thank you for bringing in your cereal donations! We will be announcing which homeroom brought in the greatest amount of cereal next week! Please look in the hallways for posters advertising the CSI’s next charity campaign! We are looking for you and your families to help us with our Bootle Drive for the Ukraine that starts on Tuesday April 19th! All donations are welcome!  

 

Attention all High school girls interested in trying out for soccer. There will be an important meeting today after school at 12:10 in the LSL Gym. 

Tryouts will start on Tuesday, April 19th after school.

To all Grads! If you ordered Grad Wear and have not yet picked it up, please come to room 253 at lunch to grab it. Also, if you are interested in nominating someone as a speaker at the graduation banquet, please see Ms. Sadler or Ms. Fierheller. We are looking for the following: Masters of Ceremonies, Toast to the Teacher, and Historians.

There is also only 2 days left to bring in boxes of cereal for the Great Cereal Challenge! In 2022 the Food Bank helps about 25,000 people a month, about 40% of which are children! With so many people finding it hard to find affordable and healthy food, we are trying to collect at least 30 more boxes before Thursday to give to St. Leo’s and St. Francis of Assisi’s Breakfast programs! Take a look at the Thermometer measuring the numbers of boxes we have collected near the Ancillary Room!

Congratulations to the Varsity Badminton Team for defeater St. Joseph High School 3-2 and Jasper Place High School 5-0.  Good luck to all athletes who will competing in the Zone Provincial Qualifying Tournament next week.

Sr. Boys Soccer Tryouts starting Monday, April 11th & 12th (3:20-4:30) on the Oval Field. It is going to be cold so dress warm! 

 

Today, the Senior High Band will be recording for Stations of the Cross in the Ancillary Room from 10:00 AM – 1:30 PM, including during lunchtime.  We ask that everyone be mindful of the recording session when passing by the Ancillary Room.  We also ask that Junior High students keep their distance from the Ancillary Room windows during lunchtime.  Thank you!

Junior High homerooms! Today is the last day to get your classroom door decorated as your country for Track & Field Olympics! Judges will be coming around at the end of the school day!  

 

Braided Journeys: For those students who were working on a dreamcatcher during last baron blocks you can either come pick it up or complete it in the Braided Journey’s room today during lunch. Also, thank you to those who volunteered for the foodbank yesterday! Your service was much appreciated!

Junior High Students who are interested in participating in Multicultural Week by showcasing your culture through performance, art, poetry, song, food, or sport please use the Google Classroom code found on the poster in your homeroom to fill out an intention form explaining what you’re interested in contributing to our upcoming celebration!

Attention all high school Varsity/ Jr Varsity Basketball players plus Grade 9 players – There will be an important meeting to all returning players (Grade 9s, Grade 10s and 11s - Boys and Girls) after school today in the LSL Gym. Don’t forget Junior High, we only have until the end of Lent – Thursday April 14th to bring in cereal for the Great Cereal Challenge! Every box counts to provide healthy lunches for kids who take part in St. Leo’s and St. Francis of Assisi’s Breakfast Program. Right now it looks like 2 classes are leading the way in bringing in the most boxes!

  • WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!!!! Congratulations to Mr. Nsaliwa and the Senior Boys Basketball Team for winning the Division 1  City Championships 65-63 versus St. Edmunds!!! What an amazing basketball game by both teams!!! It was LSL first Division Championship since 2006!! Way to go Barons!

The application deadline for the Enhanced Academic Program is Friday.  Please log into your student powerschool account and apply by clicking on the Engage Icon. 

 

Gr 9 Badminton tryouts will be next Monday March 21st from 3-5pm in CM gym. 

 

All Jr High Students – if you are interested in going to watch the Sr Boys Basketball Team play in the City Finals Tonight at Archbishop O’Leary High School, there will be a FAN BUS available. The bus will leave Louis at 5:45pm! Come to the Phys. Ed office after school today to get a parent permission form for the bus. You cannot get on the bus unless you have a signed permission form from your parents. Mr. Nsaliwa & Mr. Peel 

 

Last Call for any Jr High students interested in attending the Soccer Academy Shadow Day Tomorrow.  

It is free to attend. Go to the Phys ed office to get the permission form from Mr. Nsaliwa. 

A reminder to all the students attending and going on the bus –  

1st  Bus for the grade 6s & 7s will leave LSL at 8am 

2nd Bus for the grade 8s & 9s will leave LSL at 9:45am 

 

Braided Journey News: Today after school there is junior high tutoring in the Braided Journeys room until 2:00pm. Snacks will be provided. Also, online tutoring from 4:00pm-6:00pm through TEAMS. If you need help with your courses, you should try to attend.
