Remembering the Queen

St FX mourns the loss of our monarch Queen Elizabeth II. Queen%203.jpg

We unite as a global community and join in prayer to mourn the death of Queen Elizabeth II. Her loss will be deeply felt throughout England, the realms, the Commonwealth, and by countless people around the world. The Queen, who came to the throne in 1952, was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and Head of State that spanned post-war austerity, the transition from empire to Commonwealth, the end of the Cold War and the United Kingdom’s entry into - and withdrawal from - the European Union.

We remember with fondness her commitment to service and who, as Queen of her people for over 70 years, was a source of strength and stability and a symbol of unity for humanity’s shared solidarity.

Almighty, all-merciful God, we grieve the loss of Queen Elizabeth II. Surround us with your consolation and comfort. Listen to the prayers of your faithful. May we be sustained by our knowledge of the respect and deep affection in which the Queen was so widely held.

Through the intercession of Mary, the Mother of God, let us pray together:

Hail Mary full of Grace, the Lord is with thee.

Blessed are thou amongst women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus.

Holy Mary Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
