IB Programme

The International Baccalaureate Programme

St. Clement Elementary Junior High School is a fully authorized International Baccalaureate World School, offering the IB Primary and Middle Years Programmes to students in South Edmonton. The Primary Years Programme (PYP) is designed for students aged 3 - 12. The Middle Years Programme (MYP) is designed for students aged 11 - 16. The IB Diploma Programme (DP), is for students aged 16 - 19,  and offered at our partner school, Holy Trinity High School. There are no prerequisites for entry into any of the IB programmes. It is not necessary, for example, for students to complete the Primary Years Programme before beginning the Middle Years Programme. There are common elements in the three programmes, however, and each one flows naturally into the next. Each of the IB programmes promotes the education of the whole person by emphasizing the student's intellectual, personal, social and emotional health. In keeping with their reputation for academic excellence and innovative teaching strategies, the IB programmes also emphasize knowledge and studies in the major traditions of learning - languages, humanities, sciences, mathematics and the arts.
A great deal of research has been done which documents the benefits of the IB programmes for students. Key findings from research on the impact of IB programmes will provide you with the impact of IB programmes on students, teachers and schools.

Take a moment to view these short videos to provide you with an excellent sense of what the PYP and MYP programmes entail:

The mission of the International Baccalaureate is:

... to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.
To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment.
These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

The IB mission is given meaning for students largely through the IB Learner Profile, which is the IB mission translated into a set of learning outcomes for the 21st century. The Learner Profile is common to all IB programmes. In keeping with the IB emphasis on intercultural understanding.

The IB maintains strict standards in terms of how its programmes are delivered in schools around the world. Each IB World School has a responsibility to meet IB standards in terms of delivering the programs as well as to annually publish the IB General Regulations and Rules and to make them available to parents:
