The St. Thomas More Baseball Academy is operated in partnership with the St. Francis Xavier High School academy. The academy operates for the entire school year beginning in September and ending in June.
STM baseball academy athletes develop all baseball fundamentals during our outdoor and indoor training sessions. These include: throwing, pitching, fielding, catching, and hitting. Daily agility, stretching, and athletic training takes place to continue to "build the athlete". Also incorporated into our program are classroom sessions which include offensive and defensive strategies.
Throughout the school year students also take part in PE classes to expose them to a variety of other sports such as soccer, swimming, badminton, basketball, volleyball, and floor hockey. Health class is also delivered through the academy sessions.
Brad Wolansky is the director of both the FX and STM academies and is joined by Sheldon McDonald and Anthony Qaqish. Coach Wolansky has played and coached at the collegiate level in the United States, coached at the Midget ‘AAA’ and Senior ‘AAA’ levels in Alberta, and has coached at the Provincial level with the Team Alberta Women’s team.
Coach McDonald played collegiately and was a member of both the Baseball Canada Junior and Senior National teams and was ultimately drafted by the Chicago Cubs in 2011. After spending 3 years in the MLB Minor Leagues, he played 2 more years in professional baseball in the CANAM Independent League before returning home and is currently a coach with the Parkland Twins Midget ‘AAA’ program.
Our lead teacher is Mr. Brett Baron and he is responsible for delivering the PE and health curriculum to the STM baseball academy students.
