Physical Education 7, 8, 9

The aim of the K-12 physical education program is to enable individuals to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to lead an active, healthy lifestyle. There are four general learner outcomes upon which the physical education program is based.
  • Activity: to acquire skills through developmentally appropriate movement activities in the areas of games, individual activities, alternative environments, dance, and gymnastics.
  • Health Benefits: to understand, experience, and appreciate the health benefits that result from physical activity.
  • Cooperation: to interact positively with others.
  • Do it Daily… For Life: to assume responsibility for a continuous and active way of life.

Health and Life Skills 7, 8, 9

The aim of the K-9 Health and Life Skills program is to enable students to make informed and healthy choices and to develop behaviours that contribute to the well-being of self and others.

Three general outcomes serve as the foundation for Health and Life Skills. Students will:
  • Make responsible and informed choices to maintain health and to promote safety for self and others.
  • Develop effective interpersonal skills that demonstrate responsibility, respect, and caring in order to establish and maintain healthy interactions in life.
  • Use resources effectively to manage and explore life roles and career opportunities and challenges.

Sports Teams

St. Mark offers teams for both boys and girls. In the fall, students can be part of the Cross-country 2-3 Km Run at Gold Bar Park and/or one of the Soccer or Volleyball Teams. Basketball season begins in January and ends in March. Immediately after Spring Break students have the opportunity to be on the Badminton and/or Soccer Teams. Track and Field occurs in May with a full roster of athletes being sent to compete in the Zone and City competitions. The teams also participate in tournaments to help develop their skill level.

Grade 7 students are able to compete on junior teams where available or on senior teams. All St. Mark students are encouraged to enhance their junior high school experience by participating on a school team.

Intramural Sports

On cold weather days over the lunch hour the students may play intramural sports. The students sign up their own teams and a schedule is generated. Intramural activities consist of a variety of sports, such as volleyball, basketball, and indoor soccer. The students compete against teams at the same grade level.
