Athletics at St. Cecilia have a long and storied tradition of excellence. From our teams in the 1960’s to today’s 21st century athletes, St. Cecilia has proven that our student-athletes have what it takes to perform with the best. From our first city champion team in 1968 (soccer) to our latest winning performances in 2004 (boys volleyball /soccer, and badminton), the teams at St. Cecilia have won over one hundred city championships.
The volleyball teams have won 23 city championships, and the soccer teams have kicked in 29 city championships. The cross country running teams have added 18 city championships with basketball throwing in 22 championships. Badminton, a relatively new school sport has 3 championships to their credit. The track and field teams have won 18 overall city championships and the wrestling teams have added 18 city championships to the total as well as a number of provincial championships and one national title (1991). A “School of Champions” logo would not be out of place at St. Cecilia.
St. Cecilia athletics offer a variety of sports to the student-athlete. Starting in September the always strong boys and girls soccer teams run onto the fields, the boys/girls cross-country running teams begin their training and become the running club. Junior and Senior teams in volleyball take the court next, followed by the wrestling team (for both boys and girls). The Junior and Senior basketball teams hoop it up from mid-November to the middle of March, and when they finish, the badminton team clears the court and smashes their way to the top. In September for another run to the top and we conclude our athletic year with our largest group, the athletic team (track and field) running, jumping, and throwing their way onto the fields as well as the Tiger's Championship Slow pitch team!
Student-athletes wear our black and gold uniforms with pride, and we are proud of all our athletes who perform with ‘Tiger Pride’.
