School Events and Activities

This year’s major social justice initiatives: Scare Away Hunger is our annual food drive for the needy families in our community. Our thoughts and prayers were with the people of Ukraine, and we also collected monetary donation through our Change for Ukraine campaign.	Students receive a healthy snack from Our Daily Snack Program at 8:30am and 10:30am. Thank you to our sponsors, PC Children's Charity and the Edmonton Catholic Schools Foundation, for their generous support!
This year, we are honored to have been selected to join the APPLE Schools group as an APPLE ally school. Our students benefit from learning and leadership in physical activity, healthy eating, and positive mental health.	Every morning a new student in each class is chosen to be the PATHS kid of the day! This person gets compliments from their peers and gives themselves a compliment too. During the week, students are recognized for their accomplishments in many areas. OLOP is proud to be recognized as an International PATHS Model School.
The staff and students recognized the many people in our school community who support us in so many ways! Thank you to our administrative assistants and our custodians.	Thank you to our parents and volunteers, and to our bus drivers who get our students to school and back safely every day.
In September, students and staff at Ecole Our Lady of the Prairies participated in Orange Shirt Day. It is a time to reflect on the legacy of residential schools and honor the survivors and the children who never got to go home. For the first time ever, in 2021, this date was commemorated as a federal holiday: National Day of Truth and Reconciliation.	Our staff and students were excited to welcome our virtual guests for Read-In Week in October 2021! We look forward to returning to an in-person event next year.
For Christmas 2021, our Christmas Concert was a virtual event. We look forward to returning to an in-person Christmas concert for Christmas 2022!	In January 2022, ATB offered our Grades 4 to 6 virtual financial literacy information sessions, with the content of the sessions is tailored for each grade. These informative and interactive sessions taught students about topics such as credit, budgeting, and everyday banking.
Pink Shirt Day - Lift Each Other Up - February 2022 Pink Shirt Day aims to build awareness of bullying and to promote healthy relationships. École Our Lady of the Prairies students wore a pink shirt on February 23rd to send a message of support, kindness, and compassion.	Carnaval d'hiver is a tradition at École Our Lady of the Prairies. Students take part in winter activities, learn about French Canadian culture and of course, enjoy la tire!
Black History Month - February 2022 In 1995, the Canadian House of Commons officially recognized February as Black History Month in Canada. During the month of February, we honor the legacy of Black Canadians, past and present. During Black History Month students learned about the many Black Canadians who helped shape Canada into the culturally diverse, compassionate, and inclusive society it is.	Inline Skating Residency - February 2022 Our students enjoyed 2 weeks of inline skating lessons with instructors from Alien In-line!
Earth Day - Invest in Our Planet - April 2022 Students at Ecole Our Lady of the Prairies celebrated Earth Day, sharing their great ideas on how to take care of the earth, and some classes took action and cleaned the area around the school!	In April 2022, students and staff enjoyed a week of Afro-Fusion Dance instruction with instructor Ivan Touko.
