Social Justice

Our students are passionate about Social Justice! To help streamline their efforts, we have established a Social Justice Committee consisting of one representative from each classroom. We meet on a regular basis to share ideas and make school-wide decisions. We have divided our initiatives into two sections: local and global.

We use the book, Journey to Justice: Transforming Hearts and Schools with Catholic Social Teaching, by Constance Foure as our model. The book speaks of the 5 levels of social justice:

  1. Collections
  2. Direct Service
  3. Service for Empowerment
  4. Reflection and Analysis
  5. Advocacy for Structural Change

As a school, we strive to involve our students in various levels of social justice from basic donations (money, food for the food bank, winter clothing, etc.) to giving of our time and talents (monthly visits to Shepherd's Care to sing, make crafts and play games with the residents) to advocacy (helping our students work for structural change).
