Girls in STEM

Our Lady of Victories is the recipient of a $28,000 provincial grant to help develop a girls robotics and coding club at the school.  Female students in grades 4-6 will participate in a biweekly STEM club during their 45 minute lunch break. Each week, a different aspect of women in STEM careers will be introduced using the extensive online resources offered via the University of Alberta (WISEST) and others. Opportunities to engage girls in events outside of the school will be encouraged and introduced, so they become aware and confident in the STEM career options available both nationally and internationally.

The intention of this club is to increase the awareness and social acceptance by girls in our school of the role women play in the field of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. By creating an exclusive female club which focuses on the aspect of coding and robotics the girls will be able to problem solve and create within an environment free of risk or failure.
