A Message from the Principal

Dear Students, Parents & Guardians,

I am truly grateful to be a part of the Genesis Catholic Online community!

Here at Genesis, relationships between home and school are key in the success of our learners. It is so wonderful to see the connection and involvement our families have in our student's learning opportunities each day. Our online platform is so unique and truly allows us to consistently engage in meaningful educational experiences and connections with our students, staff and families.

I look forward to working along with you and our staff throughout the year to ensure that each student has a meaningful educational experience that is filled with strong connection with our school community.

Looking forward to working along with you,
Nicki Yakoweshen
Principal

What is Online Learning?

What We Offer

Features of Our Grade 1-9 Program

Genesis Catholic Online Elementary/Junior High is excited to be offering online programming for students from all across Alberta in grades one to nine for the 2022-2023 school year!

When students register with our school, they will take part in a full day of learning where they are fully interacting with their teachers and their peers through whole group, small group and one-to-one instruction. Students have a full day schedule, just like an in person setting, as they take part in various learning opportunities in all subject areas.

  • Students with Genesis Catholic Online will take Religion, English Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, Physical Education and Health & Life Skills.
    • As well, our elementary students will take Art, Music and French as a Second Language.
    • Our junior high students will have the opportunity to take options throughout the year. For the 2022-23 school year, we are happy to offer French as a Second Language, General Music, Art, Fashion Studies, Computer Science, and Film Creation.
  • We recognize the importance of students building both hands-on skills as well as digital skills and so intentionally build school supply lists that compliment both which will be posted by the end of June.

Experiences We Are Proud to Share with You!

It is extremely important to us that students and staff feel an authentic sense of connection and community! We are constantly connecting, reflecting and growing in order to serve our students in our online environment. Some of the ways we build connections in our school community, beyond our regular class time are:

  • School Broadcast
    • We join together as a faith community to pray, share the events of the day and celebrate each other during our live school-wide broadcast. Students will have the opportunity to lead our broadcast as well!
  • Whole School Celebrations
    • As we are faith-based community, we are very grateful to be able to gather as a school community to celebrate different times of our liturgical year. It is exciting to join together to witness the celebrations our grade level teams put together, where students lead us in reading, singing and prayer.
    • We welcome all families to join students for our celebrations! This is yet another wonderful part of our online world, as it is very convenient for families to actively participate in our school events!
  • Elementary Recess
    • Our grades 1-6 students will have the opportunity to join with their grade level friends to share in conversation, play games and make connections each day.
  • Extra-Curricular Clubs
    • All students have the opportunity to join extra-curricular clubs that take place at recess, lunch and after school both virtually and on-site for those who would like to join.
    • Some of the clubs we have had in the past are:
      • Bob Ross Painting Club
      • Master Chef Club
      • Mindfulness Club
      • Kindness Club
      • Holiday Craft Club
      • Hockey Analytics Club
      • STEAM Club
      • Leadership Club
      • and many, many more!
  • Annual Christmas Concert
    • This year, we were very excited to host our first annual Christmas concert! We look forward to hosting this type of experience for our community each and every year, where we virtually join as a community to celebrate our faith as well as the amazing talents of our students!
  • Virtual Field Trips
    • As online learning is becoming more and more common, our teachers are finding very unique field trip opportunities for students to take part in, connecting to our curriculum in meaningful ways!
  • Residencies
    • Students will have the opportunity to take part in different residencies which are connected to the Cultural Fees families pay as part of School Fees. This year, students were involved with author Karen Filewych as well as Marty Chan to further build excitement in writing and refine their craft!

Parents/Guardians Are Valued, Key Members of Our Learning Team!

We are thankful for our School Council and the voice and contributions they bring to our school. We meet virtually approximately every month to discuss what is happening in our school as well as plan for future experiences. Joining School Council, or attending meetings, is a wonderful way to hear about our school and share your voice with us in order to further build an amazing community for our learners!

Please visit our School Council page for more information.
