Academic Programs
In addition to teaching the Alberta Program of Studies from Kindergarten to Grade Six in both French and English, École Monsignor William Irwin School offers a variety of academic and co-curricular programs. The following are available to your child:
- Emphasis on living Catholic core values and integrating these values in all programs
- School-wide French and English balanced literacy designed to develop strong skills in both reading and writing
- Enhanced math instruction including Math UP program and guided math groups
- French as a Second Language for students in Grades 4-6 using authentic techniques such as storytelling, gestures, active collaboration, theatre, and repetition to engage student developing oral and written proficiency
- English as a Second Language support is designed for new Canadians, or for students whose first language at home is that other than English and offered inclusively
- Information and Communication Technologies are integrated into the core curriculum and enhanced with inquiry projects in the Makerspace, including coding and STEAM project learning
- Emphasis on health and wellness by encouraging students to be active through daily wellness messages, physical activity, and extra/co-curricular activities
- School-wide PATHS kindergarten to grade 6 program that focuses on providing alternative thinking strategies and social-emotional learning
All classrooms have a wide range of learners. Our goal is to assist students to achieve their full potential. We support all learners through the Collaborative Response Model (CRM) framework.
