BP Canada recently announced the winners of its 2009 A+ for Energy program. Through this award-winning program, BP Canada awards $5,000 or $10,000 in grants and scholarships to K-12 teachers across Alberta. This year BP Canada awarded 40 grants to schools in 15 different communities for teachers to implement innovative energy conservation projects in their classrooms. Receiving almost 90 applications this year, BP Canada is proud to recognize the following teachers from our District:
This is the third year the A+ for Energy program has benefited Alberta teachers. The program was developed to meet the needs of K-12 teachers who want to expand their core curriculum with energy education activities. With the help of Alberta teachers, it is BP Canada’s hope that these grants will serve as a spring board for a life-long educational journey that will inspire today’s youth to become responsible, energy-conscious adults. A+ for Energy teachers not only receive a $5,000 or $10,000 grant but they also receive a scholarship to participate in a three-day Energy Education Training Conference, held in partnership with Inside Education, in Kananaskis. This conference provides them with a comprehensive overview of all the energy sources found in Alberta and helps prepare them to educate and inspire their students in the coming year.
