Catholic Advocacy

The Board of Trustees of Edmonton Catholic Schools is committed to serving our community and to working to preserve our Catholic identity. As elected officials, the Board advocates for and represents the Catholic community at municipal and provincial government levels, and works with the Church and the parent community to promote quality publicly funded Catholic education.

To this end, the Board has identified Advocacy as a priority and annually establishes a plan that will impact upon the government, Catholic school supporters, and the students in our care to strengthen publicly funded Catholic education now and for future generations.

There are many ways to advocate and many issues that require a strong voice from the Catholic community. A recent example is the valuable input from parents, staff, and our supporters to Alberta's Learning Commission.

Getting to Know Edmonton Catholic Schools and the Issues

The Web Site
Edmonton Catholic Schools' web site (www.ecsd.net) explains who we are and what we do. The web site has information on current issues as well as board policies, district policies, annual department reports, the district satisfaction survey, diploma exam results, provincial achievement test results, the budget process and budget information, the capital plan and other important educational information. The district often uses the web as one way to gather input from our supporters on current issues.

Regular Board Meetings
At the Regular Board Meetings, decisions are made on matters relating to finances, property, strong educational programs, the District Three Year Plan, the Annual Education Results Report and current initiatives. These meetings are open to the public. Board meeting agendas and minutes are available on the web or by contacting the Board Office at 441-6002.

Focus on the Future
Two or three times a year the Board of Trustees publishes Focus on the Future which is sent to all parents, parishes and is posted on the web. This publication keeps stakeholders informed on initiatives and issues relating to quality Catholic education.
