Superintendent's Message - November 2008

Advent: A Time of Preparation and Prayer Adobe PDF Document

October was a month of celebration in the Edmonton Catholic School District. Our enrolment increased by 444 students to 32,943 students, compared to September 30th, 2007. Provincial Achievement Test and Diploma Examination results showed, once again, that our students are achieving excellent academic results. The broadest measure of a school district's achievement, the Accountability Pillar, which measures Student Achievement, Safe and Caring schools, Continuous Improvement and Student Learning Opportunities, shows that 9 of 16 areas have improved, including 3 areas that have improved significantly. The Provincial Government did not identify any areas for improvement in the Edmonton Catholic School District. I would like to thank all parents and guardians for inspiring your children to achieve to the best of their abilities. Please log on to our website at www.ecsd.net/whats_new/about.html for the detailed reports.

Our increasing enrolment and excellent achievement give us much to celebrate when we come together in our parishes on Catholic Education Sunday on November 2 nd. Our purpose as a Catholic school district is reinforced not only when we celebrate our many successes, but also when we strengthen our commitment to our faith by participating in sacraments and supporting Catholic schools. I encourage you to pray for the continued success of Catholic education.

On Remembrance Day, November 11 th, we honor the women and men who serve us in peacekeeping and combat roles and those who have given the ultimate sacrifice so that we may enjoy our rights and freedoms.

"Put things in order, listen to my appeal, agree with one another, live in peace, and the God of love and peace will be with you."

Sincerely,

Joan Carr
