Superintendent's Message - February 2009

Creation and Our Relationship with God

“O Lord, my God, in you I take refuge.” Psalm 7:1

Lent offers us a wonderful opportunity for spiritual renewal as we prepare for the coming feast of Easter. Through prayer and preparation Lent allows us to open our hearts and focus on our relationship with God. May this time of renewal also be a time when we allow ourselves to become stewards of service and generosity towards each other.

The staff of Edmonton Catholic Schools looks forward to Faith Development Day on Tuesday, February 3.  Our theme this year is “Walking Together…The Feet of Social Justice.”  Sister Alexandra Kovats is our guest speaker and will lead us in our understanding of social justice as expressed in our care for creation.

Also in February our schools begin hosting information evenings, open houses and school visits in preparation for the 2009-2010 school year. Edmonton Catholic Schools offers a wide variety of program choices which allow Catholic families in Edmonton access to numerous academic, language, sports, art, and focus programs. A complete list of new and expanding programs as well as a list of school open houses and information sessions is available on our web site at www.ecsd.net.

Our District satisfaction surveys, which were distributed to schools in January, are due back by February 13th.  Your opinions about the quality of education your child is receiving are very important to the future of Catholic education. The completed survey may be returned to your child’s school or dropped into any Canada Post mailbox by using the pre-paid envelope.

During Teachers’ Convention, Edmonton Catholic Schools, in conjunction with the Greater Edmonton Teachers’ Convention Association, is offering a parent night and details about this session are as follows:

Dr. Thomas Phelan

7 p.m. to 9 p.m, .Wednesday, February 25th
Crown Plaza Chateau Lacombe, Salon A and B, 10111 Bellamy Hill
Free parking in Crowne Plaza parkade

There is no charge to attend what should be a very informative parent evening.

As we reach out to grasp God’s hand in our Lenten journey, we ask our Lord’s blessing to walk more readily in faith.  May our lives of service to one another become centres of new hope.

Many blessings during the year ahead!

Sincerely,
