Superintendent's Message - February 2007

I am very pleased to let you know that the Edmonton Catholic School District continues to meet the Class Size guidelines set out by Alberta’s Commission on Learning. Since September 2004, our school district has spent more than $21,000,000 to reduce class sizes. We have just recently submitted our average class sizes to Alberta Education and they are as follows for the 2006-2007 school year:

Kindergarten to Grade 3 16.7 students per class

Grades 4 to 6 20.5 students per class

Grades 7 to 9 23.9 students per class

Grades 10 to 12 25.6 students per class

February is a busy month in our District as our schools begin hosting information evenings and open houses. You may want to explore the many program choices in our school district. Whether your choice is your community school, athletics, language programs, International Baccalaureate Programmes, or any other programs, please check our website at www.ecsd.net for additional information and Open House dates. Our school district truly lives its motto of “Faith and Choice”.

February is also the month when we begin preparing for the 2007-2008 school year. We are now well into budget deliberations, program planning and establishing goals and priorities for next school year. Your opinions and views will help us in the planning process. To send us your input, visit our website and click onto the section called “Tell Us What You Think” for an easy to use electronic form that can be emailed back to us. Thank you for your contribution.

Lent will soon be upon us so I would like to close with the following Lenten reflection:

Lord, during this Lenten Season nourish us with Your word of life and make us one with You in love and prayer.
Let us walk more readily in Your ways, and guide us in Your gentle mercy to do your will. Amen

Sincerely,

Joan Carr
