Superintendent's Message - April 2007

As Easter draws near, let us gather the wisdom, courage and will to follow the path that Christ has shown us. Christ’s crucifixion and resurrection have given us new life and renewed hope to live in pursuit of Christian ideals.

Our District goals and priorities for 2007 – 2008 provide a foundation for the school year. These goals and priorities reflect our uniqueness as a Catholic school community and lay the map for our road ahead:

Goal One: Celebration of Our Catholicity
Our schools educate more than 32,000 students. We welcome students from all faiths. The distinctiveness of our school community begins with Jesus Christ who inspires us to view each child as a precious gift and sacred responsibility. Our students are inspired to develop the knowledge, beliefs, skills, values and attitudes needed to build a relationship with God. Our schools uphold the goal of the highest quality Catholic education while embracing the growth and development of the whole child.

Goal Two: High Levels of Student Learning
Through Christ-Centred Professional Learning Communities, we are committed to common beliefs, values and goals. Our schools strive for academic excellence by engaging students in high levels of learning, and inspiring them to use their God-given talents and human capabilities for the enhancement of the common good.

Goal Three: Celebration of Community
The communal characteristic of Edmonton Catholic Schools is achieved through our responsibility to initiate social justice activities, create school communities that are welcoming and hospitable, and honor our District’s history and traditions.

One of the highlights of our school year is our annual Celebration of the Arts. This year the celebration will be held on Wednesday, May 2 at the Jubilee Auditorium. The celebration showcases some of our District’s many student artists, musicians and performers. I invite you to join us. Please ask your school for additional information.
