Letter June 2007 from Archbishop of Edmonton
Dear Parent/Guardians,
June has arrived with the much anticipated graduation for our grade 12 students who are completing an important stage in their education. These young women and men are making important decisions as they transition to post-secondary schools or the workforce. Our Catholic school graduates are to be congratulated for completing their education requirements. I wish them much success and God's guidance as they move to another phase of their life.
I am pleased to report that more students than ever before are completing High School in our District! This increase was captured in the annual Alberta Education Accountability Pillar Survey, which is an extensive survey of parents, teachers and students. Gains were also made in the rate of students that transition to post-secondary education and our Grade 12 Diploma examination participation rates. Improvements were also shown in the areas of citizenship, work preparation and safe and caring schools.
The results we have achieved are excellent and there is still much more to accomplish. Our Three Year Strategic Education Plan 2007-2010 describes our plans for the next three years. The report will be posted on our web site at www.ecsd.net after June 11.
A successful school year is the result of the collaborative efforts of administration, staff, students and of course, parents and guardians. I sincerely thank everyone for their dedication to helping children succeed.
I wish all of you a restful summer break. May God keep you safe during the summer months. I look forward to the continuation of our journey in September and thank you for your commitment to your child's education and to the Edmonton Catholic School District.
"Go now children, and know that the Spirit of Jesus will be watching over you.
Go and enjoy God's summer gifts of warm sun, cooling waters, and long, light days.
Go now with the gift of hope, that you may know God's guidance which is keeping you safe."
Gwen Costello
Sincerely,

Joan Carr
