Registration Information

Registration Nights

Two registration nights have been scheduled. All Registrations take place at Archbishop Joseph MacNeil School (750 Leger Way).

  • February 4, 2010 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
  • February 11, 2010 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

School administrators, lead teachers and clerical staff will be in attendance to assist with your child’s registration. Transportation Services staff will also be in attendance to facilitate your request for bussing.

Should the above dates not fit your schedule, you may also register your child during one of the following times, however only the school secretary will be in attendance:

  • March 13, 2010 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
  • March 20, 2010 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Regular Program

Please note that the following guidelines will be in effect for students who live in the Monsignor William Irwin elementary attendance area and are currently attending kindergarten to grade 5 at Archbishop Joseph MacNeil School:

  1. Due to overcrowding at Archbishop Joseph MacNeil School, new registrations from outside this school's elementary attendance area will not be accepted for the 2010-2011 school year.
  2. Students currently registered at Archbishop Joseph MacNeil School may continue attending that school, however, transportation will not be provided.

French Immersion Program

The Monsignor William Irwin French Immersion program will open with kindergarten to grade 3, pending sufficient enrolment. Please note that the following guidelines will be in effect for students who live in the Monsignor William Irwin French Immersion elementary attendance area and are currently attending St. Stansislaus School:

  1. French Immersion students currently attending St. Stanislaus Elementary School in 2009-10 and who are currently registered in Grades 3 to 5 shall continue to attend St. Stanislaus School as grades 4 to 6 will not be available at Monsignor William Irwin for September 2010.
  2. If these grades 4-6 students (in the 2010-11 school year) have younger siblings, who are also registered in the French Immersion program at St. Stanislaus, and to support families who wish to keep their children together, the younger siblings may also attend St. Stanislaus School. This transition arrangement will continue until June 30, 2017 which will accommodate any siblings who may be registering at St. Stanislaus School at the kindergarten level for September 2010 to complete Grade 6 at St. Stanislaus School. The kindergarten students of siblings continuing at St. Stanislaus under these provisions shall also be eligible for Noon Hour service, in addition to accessing the regular (yellow) bus service.
  3. Kindergarten students currently registered at St. Stanislaus School in 2009-2010 in the French Immersion program, living within the Monsignor William Irwin French Immersion elementary attendance area and who do not have older siblings attending St. Stanislaus in the same program, are directed to Monsignor William Irwin School for September 2010. Transportation from the Monsignor William Irwin area to St. Stanislaus School will not be available for these families who choose to remain at St. Stanislaus School.

All new families wishing to register students in the French Immersion program in kindergarten to grade 3 who reside in the Monsignor William Irwin French Immersion attendance area will be directed to Monsignor William Irwin School. Bussing to Monsignor William Irwin will be available to those students who reside within the eligible attendance area. This includes regular bussing as well as the Noon Hour service for kindergarten students.

Registration Form

Please complete the registration form and submit it to school staff during one of the registration nights. Parents who are registering their child for kindergarten will need to bring a Birth Certificate, Baptismal Certificate of the child or one of the child’s parents, and a Parent's Drivers License (to verify address).

Registration Regulations

According to Edmonton Catholic Schools regulations, students will be registered in the following order:

  1. Resident students in the school’s catchment area.
  2. Non-resident students in the catchment area currently enrolled in Edmonton Catholic Schools and who have the recommendation of their principal that they will be allowed to continue to the next level of the educational program in the district.
  3. Resident students residing outside the catchment area.
  4. Non-resident students residing within the catchment area.
  5. Non-resident students residing outside the catchment area.

A resident student is one who is a baptized Catholic or has at least one parent who is a baptized Catholic.

Monsignor William Irwin Biography

Monsignor William IrwinMonsignor Irwin was the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Catholic Social Services in 1961. Over the course of his career, he touched the lives of every Catholic in the Edmonton area.  He was appointed by the Governor General of Canada as an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1995. Monsignor Irwin died at the age of 76 in 2004.
