Location
We serve numerous communities in Northeast Edmonton
which are located within our catchment area. The boundaries
for our catchment area includes communities west
of Manning Drive, east of 82 street, and north of 137th
avenue.
Our Mission
J.J. Bowlen's mission is to provide a Catholic education which inspires and prepares students to learn, to work, to live fully, and to serve God in one another.
Extra and Co-curricular Activities
The students at J.J. Bowlen have a lot of choice of extra and co-curricular activities. In addition to school sports teams, the following activities are available for students: Student Leadership Team, ski club, library helpers, field trips, camping trips, music concerts, dances, intramurals, band club, art club, sports tournaments, pancake breakfast, special attention to a smooth transition from grade 6 to 7, grade 7 Retreat, Youth Ministry program, FROG (Fully Reliant on God), out of city and province field trips, Read-In Week activities, book fairs and student newspaper, The Giant Voice, and our Gala of the Fine Arts.
Several times during the year students and staff have the opportunity to support social justice work through donations to numerous charitable organizations.

Key Features
Strong Catholic Identity: J.J. Bowlen is a junior high
school of approximately 500 students located across
the street from St. Dominic Savio Parish, helping to
foster a strong relationship between the two. Our
parish priest, Father Bernie Gilliece, participates in
the life of the school. Students have regular opportunities
to visit the church and participate in religious
celebrations.
Excellent Academic Program: J.J. Bowlen offers a
strong academic program and continues to excel in
Provincial Achievement Testing in all four core subject
areas.
Fine Arts Program: J.J. Bowlen offers many Fine Arts
courses that give our students the chance to develop
skills in music, drama and art. Our Gala of the Fine
Arts is an evening dedicated to "Celebrate Our Gifts"
during which we showcase the talents of our fine arts
students.
Athletic Program: J.J. Bowlen offers a full range of
athletic activities and has junior and senior teams.
We offer the following sports: cross country running,
volleyball, basketball, curling, badminton, soccer, slow
pitch, and track and field. The gym is full of banners
boasting a wide variety of city championships. There is
an active intramural program as well as opportunities
during the year to experience other recreational
activities.
Variety of Complementary Courses: We offer a wide
variety of option courses including French, Music,
Foods, Art, Drama, Information Processing,
Environmental Education, Physical Education
Leadership and Construction and Design.
Programs
J.J. Bowlen offers a strong regular academic program along
with two district-level programs - Knowledge and
Employability (K&E) and the Educational
Experiences Program (Level
III). Some students at all three regular academic grade levels participate in
our Band, Art and
Youth Ministry Gifted
Program that
offers enrichment activities for more capable students. The
school also offers a Core Support/Adapted program for students
who require additional help in core subjects.
