Special Education District Programs

Special Education

While Edmonton Catholic Schools believes that inclusion is the preferred option for all learners, the district also offers a number of specialized District Programs aimed at supporting students with special learning needs.

Students that may benefit from a District Program may demonstrate need in one or more of the following categories:

  • School behaviour/Emotional development — how a student responds to the environment and other people, and how his/her behaviour affects his/her academic and social progress in school
  • Communication — how a student uses language to communicate and make sense of the world
  • Cognitive Fluency — the student’s ability to reason and understand information and concepts
  • Learning — how a student processes information and links concepts
  • Physical characteristics — the student’s gross and fine motor coordination, medical conditions, or any physical disabling condition
