PSDL is an opportunity to provide students and parents an alternative that is better suited to the changing nature of students, curriculum and society. The Personalized Self-Directed Learning Program was first introduced by J. Lloyd Trump in a book entitled 'A School for Everyone'. Dr. Trump's work evolved into the Model Schools Project in 1971 at which time Bishop Carroll High School in Calgary became one of the schools in the project. In the past few years a number of Canadian schools have adopted this program. They have come together to form the Canadian Coalition of Self-Directed Learning (CCSDL) and they meet regularly to share ideas and concerns, solve problems, initiate staff exchanges and develop common curriculum.
