- Lenses on Learning: An optional course will be offered for elementary principals on Supervising Teachers in Mathematics. This course, developed by the Educational Development Centre and featured in many publications such as Educational Leadership, has been extremely successful in helping principals and math leaders to use new supervisory strategies that are more likely to increase teacher efficacy and student learning than traditional models. Some Edmonton Catholic School principals have already completed this course through the Edmonton Regional Consortium.
- District Mathematics Exams will continue to be implemented at the Grades 2 and Grade 5 levels. This project will now expand to include performance-task assessments in an effort to make assessment in mathematics align more closely with the principles of the Western Canadian Protocol and what we have learned from research about effective mathematics teaching and learning.
- Learning
Support Services is in dialogue with Alberta Education
regarding anticipated changes to the Western Canadian Protocol
which may impact the elementary curriculum. Appropriate support
for teachers will be provided if and when these changes take place.
