Career and Technologies Studies

Edmonton Catholic Schools CTS educators provide students with an opportunity to apply and reinforce learning in a hands-on atmosphere. This opportunity is beneficial to all students in that it helps to develop skills that they can apply in their daily living, now and in the future.

CTS teachers provide students with an opportunity to investigate career options by simulating industry practices through expert instruction and equipment use. Advantaged by this knowledge, students can make effective choices that will help focus their high school program to ensure that they have all the necessary courses for entry into the career field of their choice.

Students are provided with modern technology in their CTS classes to enable learning of efficient and effective uses of processes, tools and techniques. CTS areas provide direct linkage with post secondary coursework and have articulation with traditional trades areas.

Students, in the spirit of Christ, use the knowledge and skills gained in CTS courses to provide services to their community. Examples of this include WEB page design for non-profit organizations, auto repair, small construction projects, hair care for senior citizens and young children and multi-media productions just to mention a few.

In keeping with the spirit of skill development, teamwork and friendly competition, many students participate in Skills Alberta . This is a competition among CTS students throughout the province to demonstrate the skills gained in CTS courses. These skills are judged by panels of experts from post-secondary schools and industry. Winners of these competitions form Team Skills Alberta and move on to compete at the national level in the Skills Canada competition. Alberta has proven to be in the top level of skill development having many top place finishers in this national competition.
