Assessment Support Intervention and Success Team (ASIST)

The Assessment Support Intervention and Success Team (ASIST) offers integrated interventions and supports to at-risk grade 7 – 12 students in Edmonton Catholic Schools. The focus is pro-active. A team consisting of a consultant/teacher, a social worker and other professionals from community agencies will provide the supports needed so the students involved can be successful in their learning environment and develop the attitudes and skills needed to become a good citizen.

Members of ASIST include, but not be limited to, YMCA youth worker, consultant/teacher from Edmonton Catholic Schools, Council of Elders, social worker, psychiatric nurse from Mental Health, school resource officers from Edmonton Police Services, as well as the student and guardians. The consultant/teacher will act as the team coordinator in bringing all the supportive components together and maintaining an organized flow of information involving everyone. The ASIST program encourages lifelong growth in academic, social, physical, emotional, moral and spiritual development.

Our target group includes students from grades 7-12 who are engaging in at risk behaviors and are/or may be heading towards suspension/expulsion. These at risk behaviors may include the following: peer pressure, exposure to drugs and alcohol, bullying and gangs and criminal involvement. The program is coordinated by Alternative Education Services. Students are placed in the program through District Educational Services (School Operation Services).
