Parents and Students

Edmonton Catholic School District parents are an integral part of our school community. Edmonton Catholic School staff, in partnership with parents, are committed to the education of our students. Parents are welcome and encouraged to participate in all areas of their child's education, as they are their child's first and most important teachers.

Schoolyard Clean Up Program

Schoolyard Clean Up PosterEvery spring when the snow melts, schoolyards need a little extra attention to make sure they’re clean and safe—whether they’re next to elementary, junior or senior high schools.

Capital City Clean Up’s Schoolyard Clean Up program encourages schools to put litter in its place and show school pride by registering in the program. Registering is easy. Schools just need to email schoolyardcleanup@edmonton.ca with the school name, phone number, teacher contact name and the number of garbage bags schools will need. (CCCU will have them delivered to the schools.) Schools can register starting March 1st through to May 15th.

While each participating school will be recognized, the cleanest registered elementary, junior and senior high school in each quadrant of the city will win prizes. Both The Edmonton Sun and West Edmonton Mall are program sponsors.

Visit edmonton.ca/capitalcitycleanup External Website for more information or call 780-944-5470.

Kids Care Challenge

Thank you so much, students and staff, for your generous support of the Kids Care Challenge/Sign of Hope Campaign. This year was a difficult one for many charities in meeting their campaign goals and we actually went down to the wire while waiting to hear if our goal was met or not. We are very happy to report that for the 26th year in a row, the Sign of Hope campaign met its fundraising goal for the year. This year, the campaign raised $2.4 million dollars.

The schools that participated in the Kids Care Challenge raised a combined total of $50,600 for the Sign of Hope Campaign. This will go a long way in terms of ensuring that Catholic Charities/Catholic Social Services can continue serving the physical, mental and spiritual needs of the people they serve - people of ALL faiths and cultures.

Your generous donation supports programs such as the LaSalle House for women; Safe House, for young people living on the streets, the McDaniel Youth Program, for young people aged 14-19 who have Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, Kairos House, a residential program for people affected by HIV/AIDS; Parent-Teen Mediation, the Elder Abuse Resource Centre (EARS) for seniors affected by abuse, and the Rotary Centre for New Canadians, which offers one-stop settlement services for families who are new to Canada. Through your generosity and caring, you are truly a Sign of Hope for others.

May God bless you for your generosity and kindness.

Coats for Kids & Families

Thank you to everyone who participated by either donating items or their time to make this worthwhile program a success. It is through continued community awareness and support that we are able to make a difference in our community.

This year we collected 560 coats, 75 pairs of snow pants, and eight large bags of miscellaneous clothing. These items were delivered to Page the Cleaner and will be cleaned and distributed to needy families in our community. If anyone would still like to make a donation, Page the Cleaner locations will accept donations until April 15, 2010.

Once again thank you to everyone for your support and making this year’s campaign a great success.

Parent Engagement Meeting on Budget Reductions

On October 1, 2009, the Board of Trustees hosted a parent engagement meeting on budget reductions at St. Joseph High School. Approximately 150 people were there to discuss what they value most in education and what items we might consider trimming, if necessary. This meeting was held in response to the Alberta Government’s announcement that because of the provincial deficit, school districts are asked to reduce their budgets this year and in 2010.
