Program Overview
The Spanish Language and Culture 10-20-30 are international language programs offered to provide the opportunity to students to experience, learn and practice the language and culture of the Spanish speaking world.
Based on the provincial curriculum and the premise of 125 hours of class work, these courses are set to accommodate the needs of independent students who wish to set a self-paced learning environment.
The courses are offered from the fall to the middle of June and each student ahs the opportunity to set an independent schedule to complete all assignments and work related duties.
All 30 level language courses can be used to access university programs.
Prerequisites
- Successful completion of "Orientation to Online Learning".
- Spanish 10 has no pre-requisites other than a desire and interest to complete a language course at the beginner stage.
- Spanish 20 and 30 require previous course completion and accreditation.
Required Resources
- Required textbooks and course packs are available at registration time and will be returned upon completion of course.
- All students must have access to microphone and headphone sets and set up a student personal account on Skype.com (free) to attend live audio-chats.
General Expectations
- Students complete their course within their desired timeframe in accordance with the running calendar and school year (fall to June). Courses that begin on one school year cannot be completed over the summer.
- Instructors will provide completion dates for assignments, quizzes, and exams on the calendar within each course after consultation with each individual student. Students set their desired pace. All courses are organized to be completed within 125 hours of instruction.
- Once deadlines are stipulated it is important that students respect the agreed upon times of completion to ensure a smooth learning process.
- Students must maintain regular contact with their instructor via the communication tools provided in their course.
- Revelation Online is a "virtual" school. Students are expected to participate in chat and discussion sessions designated by the instructor. Chat sessions will be posted on the course calendar or communicated through e-mails.
- Technical issues will occur and are not an excuse for late or missing assignments. Students are expected to manage their time so that minor delays due to technical problems do not result in missing deadlines. Students are expected to contact Technical Support if they experience technical problems.
Technical Skills and Equipment Requirements
- Students must have internet access. A high speed connection, either ADSL or cable, is necessary in some courses.
- Skill in using a web browser to navigate the web to locate educational resources and download files.
- File management skills necessary to create directories, save files, and retrieve files.
- Ability to use email to send messages and attachments.
- A Java enabled browser, either Internet Explorer 5.0 or Netscape Communicator 6.0 or higher.
- Word, PowerPoint and web-based programs will be needed to complete assignments.
Face-to-Face Requirements
- Students are not required to meet with their instructors in face-to-face situations if the completion of the course can occur with no major disruptions. Final exams occur through live audio-chats and on-line quizzes.

- alphabet and sound system
- greetings and talking about personal information
- gender and number of nouns and adjectives
- how to ask for clarification on spelling and meaning of words
- numbers and their common use in everyday life
- cognates and their meanings
- pronouns and articles and their use
- basic questions and conversation components
- ser ye estar - special verbs in Spanish
- regular verbs in present tenses
- family and school - these topics will be explored in depth
- gustar
- everyday activities - times and dates
- reflexive verbs
- adjectives
- tener and other irregular verbs
Evaluation
Units one-five are worth 20 points each. This means that everything you complete in each unit will be used towards the 20 points of the unit, in different ways. Each unit quiz will also be worth 20 points. The sixth unit is worth 80 points. Total points from the course work are 300.
At the end of the course you will have a final exam which will consist of three parts: a listening comprehension part in the school lab + a writing-grammar component (on-line) + an oral live interview with the teacher. The total of the final exam is 100 points.

- La vida Diaria - learning to express ourselves in the everyday life
- El tiempo libre - free time in the past and in the future tenses
- De compras - Shopping and working through different activities
- La cultura - a special unit on Latin-American Legends, culture and lifestyles.

- Students must complete their course with in the time limits specified
by their instructor.
- Instructors will provide completion dates for assignments, quizzes,
and exams on the calendar within each course. Since these dates reflect
the time needed to complete each section of the course, it is critical
that meet all deadlines. Students are required to contact their instructor
regarding any changes to these deadlines. Assignments that are not submitted
by the deadline will be assessed a mark of 0 (zero).
- Students that fail to meet their course deadlines, even for a short
period, may be required to meet with the administration to discuss their
progress.

per week is expected.

- Students are required to write two exams (mid-term and final) at the
testing centre located at the Revelation Online Centre.
- Students may be required to attend appointments with the school councilor
if their progress becomes a problem.
