Permeation:
Finding Grace Within Curriculum

“All of the learning outcomes in the Program of Studies contain a religious dimension. It is the right, responsibility and privilege of educators in Catholic schools to bring to consciousness the divine presence that resides in what is learned.”

On December 8th, all teachers of Edmonton Catholic Schools were given the gift of an afternoon to talk about their faith formation and the permeation of the Catholic faith in their teaching using the Eight Characters of Catholic Education.  The Goal of December 8th was to deepen teachers’ understanding of and ability to intentionally permeate our Catholic faith within the subject matter being taught.

In every school in our District there is, in the main entrance, a plaque proclaiming:

“Be it known to all who enter here that Christ is the reason for this school.
He is the unseen but ever present teacher in its classes.
He is the model of its staff and the inspiration of its students.”

We are gifted with an amazing opportunity to work in a faith-infused environment where Christ is ever-present and Catholic educators are vessels of His message.  How lucky we are to be able to live “integrated lives” where our faith and our work are intertwined.
