The School and Recreation Facilities Working Sub-Committee addresses issues and opportunities related to use of schools, pools, arenas, and other indoor facilities. Current priorities for this group include:
- Implement the Standards of Play for gymnasiums. Standards of Play is a tool used to determine a user group's space requirements to run a good program and ensures that all users get their "fair share" of available time.
- Improve access to facilities. This initiative is aimed at ensuring that community groups are able to access space as needed in schools, and that school groups are able to access space as needed in City facilities.
- Work toward a seamless booking system. Bookings of City facilities and schools in both school districts are now done with the same computer booking program. Work is continuing on further integrating the school bookings systems into a one-stop-shop for user groups.
The Sports Fields Working Sub-Committee works on issues and opportunities related to the use of sports fields by schools and community groups. This includes baseball (and its variations), soccer, football, cricket, as well as lesser-known activities such as ultimate frisbee. Current initiatives and priorities for this sub-committee include:
- Review the Standards of Play for sports fields. The standards for sports fields were established in 1996 and are no longer meeting needs due to significant growth and variation in demand.
- Review policies and procedures related to field maintenance, user fees, and booking procedures.
The Site Planning and Facility Design Working Sub-Committee addresses issues and opportunities related to the development and maintenance of school and park sites. Current initiatives and priorities include:
- Review land-related policies and standards of the three partners. (e.g. parking, dual use, naturalization, appropriate design.)
- Identify common ground in policies and standards related to land.
- Declare a united-front position on selected land-based issues to which the parties can commit.
