What is Modified Immersion?
- It is an immersion program in which only a few (usually two or three) subjects are taught in French.
Who should register?
- Students who have no local access to a full Immersion program can still benefit from a modified Immersion program.
- While their French will not develop in as many areas of vocabulary studying even two subjects in French can help prevent the loss of basic French skills.
Which schools offer it?
How does it work?
- Students focus on French language skills in the French Language Arts class and increase exposure to vocabulary by studying at least one other course, typically Social Studies, in French.
- Many students in Modified Immersion come from full immersion junior highs and choose to go on to university in French.
Benefits
- Students in Modified Immersion continue to view themselves as functionally bilingual and maintain more confidence in their French skills than they would have had they chosen an English program.
