Alternative and Adult Education Services

	Alternative and Adult Education Services strive to meet the needs of the community by offering alternative, supportive and complementary learning and growth opportunities for students within our District, and English language programs for adult newcomers to our community.

The objectives of the department include:

• Operating Outreach, alternative and supplementary programming for students in grades 2-12
• Developing programs that meet individual student needs and circumstances
• Delivering educational programs to diverse groupings in a wide-range of settings
• Delivering adult language training programs
• Serving as a vehicle to facilitate alternative directions for the district

Our many programs include:

• Outreach Programming for Senior High School Students (Fresh Start sites of Downtown, North, Northwest, South, West, and Mill Woods)
• Partners For Youth outreach including both Junior/Senior High School Students
• Assessment Support Intervention and Success Team (ASIST) offers integrated interventions and supports to at-risk grade 7 – 12 students
• Guardian Angel Program - junior high outreach at Fresh Start Northwest and Fresh Start Mill Woods
• Revelation Online high school program (virtual learning)
• Our Lady of Grace Program for pregnant and parenting teens
• Sanctuary at St. Margaret - junior and senior high students diagnosed with severe behavioral disorders
• P.A.S.S. - Part-time Alternative Self-paced School (high school courses)
• Summer School learning opportunities
• Diploma Exam Preparation courses for senior high students
• High School Completion Rates in conjunction with A.I.S.I. - Alberta Initiative for School Improvement
• Aboriginal Career Facilitation - in conjunction with Aboriginal Learning Services
• LINC (Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada) programming
• Case Management for all district students on Student Finance
• Projects Office - in conjunction with Citizenship and Immigration Canada

Alternative and Adult Education Services has numerous partnerships which include: AADAC , Catholic Social Services , TERRA Association , Edmonton City Centre Church Corporation , Alberta Education , Alberta Human Resources & Employment (AHRE) , and Citizenship & Immigration Canada (CIC) .

Alternative and Adult Education Services operates 10 off-site locations with 23 different programs as part of its district mandate, in order to offer successful alternative programming for students and adults.
