Palma Covelli

"And during supper Jesus got up from the table, took off his outer robe, and tied a towel around himself. Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples' feet and to wipe them with a towel."
John 13: 3-5

Leadership ServicesThe goal of Leadership Services is to enhance the leadership capacity of certificated staff in Edmonton Catholic Schools through the following initiatives:

Succession Planning
Ongoing processes have been developed which systematically promote, identify and assess the leadership capability of certificated staff to meet future school and District needs.

Leadership Development Programs
Leadership Services has designed programs to meet the needs of staff at all levels of their leadership journey. The leadership development programs include:

Leadership Training Program - a program for certificated staff considering school-based leadership for the first time.

Principal Training Program - a program for assistant principals who are preparing for appointment to the principalship.

New Principals' Training Program - a program that provides training, support and mentorship to first year principals.

New Assistant Principals' Training Program - a program that provides encouragement training and collegial support for first year assistant principals.

Catholic Educational Leadership Professional Development
This initiative includes a faith based examination of the Role of the Principal as Catholic Educational Leader. A comprehensive and ongoing professional development program is designed for principals, and senior administration. Through reflection, professional dialogue and literature, the participants are guided to gain greater insight and understanding of how their faith permeates their role as Catholic Educational Leaders.

The annual October Leadership Academy provides opportunities for in-depth examination and analysis of topics pertinent to Catholic Educational Leaders.

Assistant Principal Professional Development
Four or five professional development sessions are structured for assistant principals that mirror to some extent, the Catholic Educational Leadership portion of principal professional development.

Appointment of School Based Administrators
A multidimensional process is utilized to screen applicants and assess candidates for assistant principal and principal leadership pools. The quality and diversity of the members of the leadership pools ensure that we will have capable and competent Catholic Educational Leaders to meet our future needs.

Leadership Services:

  • liaises with the University of Alberta , Newman Theological College and other post secondary institutions in the areas of graduate programs for school based leaders.
