ECSD signs MOU with APEGGA

APEGGA

Edmonton Catholic Schools and the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta (APEGGA) signed a memorandum of understanding on March 8th. The agreement formalizes an already strong working relationship with the association where APEGGA will help ECSD students plan careers in engineering and geosciences. APEGGA hopes the partnership with ECSD will help the associations goal of encouraging more of Alberta’s junior high and senior high school students to consider a career in this specialized field. Educational Community Partnerships Definition

Educational Community partnerships are an integral part of the educational experience through which students learn about the world in which they will live and work. As a progressive district, Edmonton Catholic Schools believes in educational experiences that prepare the next generation to be contributing members of society and influential contributors to the work force in the 21st century.

An Educational Community Partnership is an ongoing, mutually beneficial and supportive arrangement between Edmonton Catholic Schools and post-secondary institutions, not-for-profit organizations, cultural groups and government organizations to help students achieve their academic goals. Partners share values, objectives, resources and responsibilities to achieve desired learning outcomes by providing expanded learning opportunities and enhancement to the curriculum and/or complementing existing student services. Edmonton Catholic Schools recognizes that each partnership is unique and special and exists for the benefit of the students of our District and their educational goals.

Edmonton Catholic Schools endorses and seeks out educational partnerships that:

Support curriculum and research-based pedagogy
Reflect and nourish our Catholic Faith
Promote high school completion and entrance into work opportunities or post-secondary schools
Bring relevant learning opportunities into our schools

A number of our District goals and priorities address the importance of educational community partnerships. These include:

1.2 Foster the presence of Edmonton Catholic Schools in the education, church, civic and government communities

Create opportunities to be a visible presence in the broader community

2.2 Meet the learning needs of a diverse student population

Collaborate with Ministries and community partners to meet the needs of a variety of learners.

3.1 Provide and promote cultural diversity from an authentic perspective

Encourage parental and community involvement in furthering Aboriginal education in our District

4.1 Seek, promote and engage in responsive and responsible community partnerships

Build, maintain and foster relationships and partnerships that promote the development and enhancement of programs and services within our District.

Our Partners in Faith

The Archdiocese of Edmonton and the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of Edmonton work in communion with the Trustees, administration and staff of Edmonton Catholic Schools to provide an education animated by the Gospel and reflecting the tenets of the Catholic faith. Our faith partners work with us to support and foster the special characteristics of Catholic education and the ongoing faith development of our staff. The Edmonton Archdiocese and Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy work with our District and all the faithful to promote and protect Catholic education in our province so that our rich history of excellence in Catholic Education continues to flourish in Edmonton.
